“Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere.” - Chinese Proverb
At Lift Hillview, we welcome families into a safe and caring community, where children will been couraged to be curious about the world around them, learning together with kindness and honesty; always trying their best.
'Trying our best, being kind, being honest, being curious'
Our curriculum inspires and empowers children to have an active and responsible role in shaping their future beyond the Hillview family. We strive to ensure all learners can be the best they can be, in an environment which is safe, respectful and nurturing. We pride ourselves on our inclusive ethos.
Through our inclusive ethos, we value all pupils and celebrate diversity of experience, interest and achievement. We inspire and promote high expectations for all, in all that we do. Our goal is to develop confident, independent and resilient learners, who are able to positively contribute to our rapidly changing and diverse society. Every teacher is a teacher of every pupil, including pupils with SEND, through
‘Quality First Teaching’ and a graduated approach to supporting additional needs.
We have developed a Connected Curriculum approach to learning and value the importance of enabling children to make connections with their learning that this approach allows. We have carefully considered the order in which our curriculum is taught to ensure that children can build upon prior learning. This also ensures that learning is accessible to all and offers challenge, breadth and depth. At Hillview Primary School and Early Years, we recognise that in order to embed a fully inclusive culture across our school, it is the responsibility of all, and needs to be the golden thread that runs through all aspects of our school provision in a fully holistic way.
“Reading is a passport to countless adventures” - Mary Pope Osborne
Reading is a fundamental skill which is crucial for children in succeeding in other curriculum areas; we aim to instill a love of reading in all children. We have carefully selected high-quality books to act as ‘core texts’ which drive our reading curriculum and help to support writing outcomes. The documents below give an overview of the subjects we study in school and the aims for what our pupils will learn within each subject.
We aim to ensure that all children are confident mathematicians who can apply mathematical knowledge and skills. Our ‘Do It, Stretch It, Solve It’ approach, along with our dedicated Maths Fluency sessionsensure that all children have the opportunity to develop essential mathematical skills and tackle reasoning and problem solving tasks.
We firmly believe that it is essential that children leave Hillview Primary School and Early Years as confi-dent communicators who can articulate their own views and opinions. We ensure that speaking and listening opportunities are incorporated into all areas of the curriculum as we acknowledge that language and communication is an area which many of our children have a need in. We aim to ensure that children are ready for their next steps when they transition to secondary school. We have carefully considered how our teaching style and home learning offer progresses throughout the school to ensure that children feel prepared for this change.
The school uses the graduated pathway to identify barriers to those with additional needs. All members of the school community work together to ensure that the provision meets individual needs, and reduces any barriers to learning in a fully inclusive way.
We have carefully chosen trips/ visits/ experiences/ visitors to school to not only enhance our curriculum but also provide children with opportunities which they might not otherwise have. The experiences provided excite and engage the children with their learning.
